Racing at Courageous
There's nothing like the thrill of racing to improve your skills. Courageous makes racing easy to get into and hard to stop.
Winter Frostbite Racing
2010 frostbiting memberships sold out FAST this year! Courageous hosts this exciting racing series on Saturdays from November through March. While it sure does get cold out there, the tough competition (plus lots of layers) keeps everyone's temperature up. The '08-'09 frostbite season was one of our best, and now we are fresh off a great regular season of Tuesday night racing. Frostbiting '09-'10 is looking good, very good.
Here are the details:
The fleet: 24 well-matched Rhodes 19s The dates: --Fall Series: November 14, 21; December 5, 12, 19 --Winter Series: January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6 --Make-up date or Valentine's Regatta: Feb 13 --Spring Series: February 20, 27; March 6, 13, 20 The schedule: 30 more minutes per day than last year --1100 Skipper’s meeting --1130 First warning --1430 Final race start How to register: Pay online (http://www.courageoussailing.org/members/purchase-on-line) or over the phone (617-268-7243) and send an email to Dave with a list of team members and updated contact info. Like last year, each team must have a primary "captain", who is responsible for all team coordination, payment, etc. Syndicates are fine, but they must be managed by one person, not by Courageous.
It's a tough fleet so new skippers must be pre-approved by Dave or Miguel. If you haven't raced at Courageous before, please send a brief sailing resume (informal is fine) to Dave at

The cost: $1200 per team. This year you can pay online all at once or in 6 monthly payments.
If frostbiting is your thing, you can follow the action all season on the Courageous frostbiting site, frostbiting.com.
Fall Racing 2009
This year we'll be offering a football-friendly (more or less) racing schedule through the rest of the season. Everyone is invited. We are asking for $5-$10 per person to help cover costs, but otherwise it's racing as usual. Just let us know in advance if you're coming so we can reserve enough boats. And let us know if you're interested in team racing - if there's enough interest/participation from team racers, we'll mix that in. The J fleet is being worked on right now, so all racing will be in R19s.

Thursday Night Fleet Racing - May through Early September
For great informal club racing in Boston Harbor, Thursday nights at Courageous is the place to be. Choose between our J/22 and Rhodes 19 fleets and test your skills against the competition. After the racing, you'll want to stick around for our Thursday night barbecues on Pier 4.
Monday Night J/22 Team Racing - May through Early September
Monday Team Racing is for those who like their sailboat racing even more intense and tactical. Our J/22s wait all week for the chance to express their dinghy nature on Monday nights. Started at the end of 2008 and run all season in 2009, this series just keeps getting better.
Tuesday Night Advanced Fleet Racing - May through Early September
Tuesday Fleet Advanced Fleet Racing was an amazing new addition to our 2009 racing calendar. Unlike our other series, participation on Tuesdays required an entry fee (still very reasonable at $300 per team, for 15 nights of racing). The series attracted our top frostbiters, as well as great racers from around the area who were new to Courageous. Congratulations to John and Erin Murphy for winning the series, Gordon Baird and Mark Lindsay in second, and Matt Marston and Cheney Baird in third. Guaranteed to be back in 2010.
Constitution Yacht Club PHRF Racing (Wednesday Evenings and two Saturdays)
On Wednesday nights the Inner Harbor fills up with the big sailboats for PHRF racing. At the top end, are some fast Farr 40s, at the smaller end, are our own J/22s. Though we can't pay your entry fee ($30/day), we love to see our J/22 members out there competing against the big boys.
